VesuviaSonic Record Release
February 2009 – Catalog # CIT9002-1

Citation Records is pleased to announce the release of Transfixed by LA’s favorite band, VesuviaSonic. Now, we wouldn’t try to pedal you one of those clichéd lines about VesuviaSonic sounding like the lovechild of musician X and musician Y, but we think it’s only fair to tell you that they have uncovered the place where The Stooges meet James Brown and made it their own. Add a dash of Shoegaze and a pinch of 60s garage, and you’ll have the right idea about kicking out the jams VesuviaSonic style.

But don’t take our word for it. Go on. Check it out!

And just who are these VesuviaSonic characters? The band rose from the ashes of two projects that Los Angeles music fans know well, The Dash and Big Violin. The Dash was formed by current VesuviaSonic vocalists/guitarist/organ extraordinaire Jim Jet at the ripe old age of 12 with friend Shon Sullivan (who you might know from his work with Johnny Marr and The Eels, among others). The Dash tour up the stages in LA for six years, acting as the go-to local act for touring rock stars.

Jim then met Steve McClintic, VesuviaSonic drummer, and Alfonso Afandaor, VesuviaSonic guitarist, and recruited them into a new project, Big Violin. Big Violin repeated the success of The Dash and even released a now OOP album called Joule, which sits happily on the shelf of many an LA music fan.

Post Joule, Jim engaged in that favorite activity of musicians – recording demos and then shelving them – but then he met Chelsea Speer. Chelsea knew the good stuff when she heard it, and she convinced Jim to dust off the demos and get ‘em out there. She was right, too. Just ask KROQ 106.7, who started playing Head-On Collision as soon as they got their hands on it.

Which brings us to the present. Having recruited Chelsea for bass and vocal duties, the rest of Big Violin came back together to form VesuviaSonic and quickly reclaimed their band-about-town status in LA.
